Hitch campers trailer with a beautiful sunset view

So, you’ve bought yourself a Canning, the Hitch Campers 100% Australian made Off-Road Teardrop Camper, and you can’t wait to start adventuring all the hidden gems Australia has to offer. But what do you take with you?

For the experienced camper’s reading this you probably have your list down pat but to the novice it can be quite intimidating heading away for the first weekend in the bush especially with the Canning’s full off-road ability, you really can get yourself fully off-grid and you need to ensure you have the appropriate items with you when you travel.

When travelling to places the Canning is designed to go you may find yourself in some very isolated parts of Australia where help or civilization may be hours away should you need it, so it is important when preparing for these Off-Grid trips that you ensure you travel with the appropriate items for the location.

The Essentials

  • Water And Food. With the Canning having one of the largest available storages in the Off-Road teardrop camper market these tasks are easily handled with your 90 Litre water capacity (or optioned 180L) and over 1300L of storage space including your fridge slide you have plenty of room for ample food to keep you going while exploring the bush, the beach or the desert. It is also wise to take an extra Jerry can with you so that even if you run out in the camper you know you still have a 20L reserve with you. The canning comes with a Jerry can holder as standard, so you have a place to store it on the outside of the pod. Staying hydrated while out travelling can be the difference between life and death.
  • Ample Clothing. Even if the weather for your trip looks perfect it is crucial you have warm, dry clothing available should the weather take a turn. With 4 large cupboards inside the Canning plus a storage nook, you have plenty of room to make sure you have extra clothing available when required.
  • Sunscreen And Mosquito Spray. (These ones speak for themselves)
  • Porta Potti (and toilet paper). When travelling Off-Grid you will need a Porta Potti (or a shovel to dig a hole) to go about your business when required. The Canning offers a perfect storage spot for storing your Porta Potti adjacent to your fridge slide on the front toolbox.
  • First Aid Kit. Especially important when travelling fully off-grid as you may sometimes be hours from the nearest medical centre.
  • General Maintenance / Recovery Equipment. It’s always handy to carry a small (or large) Tool kit with you when travelling in the case you need to make running repairs on any of your equipment or perform a recovery for yourself or others
  • UHF Radio. Especially if travelling with others in the outback it will allow you to alert them to upcoming hazards while travelling or make contact if you get separated.
